Indian experience with the Hockey world cup

At the end, all is not well with the Indian national sport, Hockey. Probably the expectations were misplaced what with the first encounter against Pakistan. First things first. Indian hockey has to endure so many struggles, if not battles, before it faces any big international event. The arrogance of authority by the likes of Gill, the political greed of the likes of Kalmadi, the meagre reward associated with taking up Hockey, or for that matter, any sport in our country leaves much to be desired. The careers of the legends like Mukesh kumar & Dhanraj Pillai stands testimony to why a sport like Hockey has lost its eminence in India and why people do not like taking up sport as a profession. The present hockey team had to fight for their compensation just before the world cup. It has showed up in the lack of preparation of the team. Traditionally asian hockey and european hockey have been altogether different ball games, figuratively though. European hockey is called power hockey with higher stamina levels and attacking play and total team work. Asian hockey has always been the game show of a few high calibre individual players. I remember the likes of players like Shahid, who always believe that they can sigle-handledly should score goals. They were right to a certain extent. But then such players would be trapped by the opposition who would ensure that the key performers of the asian teams are blocked and they succeed in the due course. This has once again reflected in the latest tournament. We Indians as such do not believe in team work, somehow. We rely on a few individuals, be it in organizations or sports.
There are teams for the sake of names, but only individuals matter. So many HR programmes apart, still teams in most of the companies do not gel or work as teams. If this core inadequacy is addressed, lot of the evils in the performance of teams, be it a corporate company or a sporting team, would be wiped off. Time to ponder. Having said this, the Indian hockey team has tried its might and we should salute them. For ages we take things sportingly and believe in participation and not winning. Shouldn't matter much, that way.
I thank my colleague Krishnaswamy and friend KSV Dakshinamurthy for their patient reading of this blog and for putting forth their views on the blog. Keep writing buddies.
Krishnaswamy has clarified certain things to me regarding the 3G blog. 2G with reference to mobile technology is actually wap, which was the older version while the present GPRS should be termed 2.5G. There is also 3.5G which uses HSPDA, which in turn allows access to data with higher download speeds. Thank you Swamy for your inputs. Also while refering to the AP Governor, I have mentioned his initials as VSL, while it should read as ESL. So much for errors and corrections. I would try to ensure that the count of mistakes would come down...How? I would stop counting them.. Just kidding! Bye for now.
