Why I Voted For Narendra Modi!

Today is a big day for the people of Telangana. We had polling for both the newly formed Assembly and the Parliament. I voted for Narendra Modi. Yes, you heard it right. I voted for Modi, not just BJP. In that I voted for a Leader. I voted for a visionary. I voted for the statesman who would walk the talk. His being a BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate is incidental for me.

I am no weatherman to tell if there is Modi wave or not in the country. Let me reserve that till May 16 when the Parliament election results would be out in the open. No prizes for guessing. I do not hesitate to wear it on my sleeve, my support to Modi for PM. I can't see any better leader in the recent times. I am for the development of my nation and I yearn to see Modi as PM. In the process, I put down my views on him and the endless controversies around him, from my own little understanding.

Let me start the discourse with the standard disclaimer. I follow political activity of the nation without minding to be politically correct. I take interest in the changes around me politically. I understand that if I feel "to hell with politicians" and do not vote, I will be found guilty of the misdeeds of the politicians and the miseries of the aam aadmi. No I am not referring here Arvind Kejriwal or his brand of Aam Aadmi. I had enough of it. I am talking of the common man of my country.

I have grown up seeing the dedication and commitment of the RSS shaka people, listening with awe the speeches of the great statesman Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the party building skills of Lal Krishna Advani among other things. I have also grown up seeing the dirty policies of the Congress leaders all through the past 25 years or so, from the time I took interest in reading the newspapers. Never I found myself being in such a helpless citizen of this country earlier than today. I was looking out for a real savior, who at worst, dream of doing something for this great nation. Many have come and gone, but no one lived upto the promises, leave alone expectations. I had respect for the BJP as a party. Now the party is no different from the Congress or AAP for that matter. The only difference I could feel now is it has a visionary in Modi who is looked upon as THE LEADER, by millions of people like me.

When Keshubhai Patel served as Chief Minister of Gujarat, he seemed to be doing things right, but for his arrogance and stubbornness. Later when the earth quaked in Surat, I felt it is very difficult for the garment hotspot to develop in the near future. But then Modi did not think like me. He has changed the scenario completely and that is called Rebuilding. He has dedicated his life to the welfare of the state of Gujarat. Only after two successful terms did he think of moving to the national scene, as he felt like Sachin Tendulkar, not having any major task left for his area of work. Yes, he is a different persona. We cannot measure Modi with the yardsticks that we measure any other politician. He is a rare breed, whose life is there for the nation than for himself.

People may say bad things about his childhood marriage, balya vivah, to say. But when I read the life histories of great people, I understand that their life is different from the ones we lead. Also we have politicians around us who have many marriages, affairs and itch for more. We are not used to this type of people, unless we know of those committed RSS Pracharaks, who are told not to get married and stay single and serve the nation. The ideology of RSS may be dated, but one can never question the commitment of these people about their patriotism. One has to see to understand that. I have seen some during my school days. Even leaving this complex issue, I say "miya biwi razi tho kare kya kaazi". Though there is no private life for a political leader, till the time it is not affecting his conduct and his integrity and probity in public life, I am not bothered about it. Seen enough of Nehrus, Tiwaris, Digvijays among others. I feel his resolve to do something would have kept him stay away from his marriage. Otherwise he would have been one among us, not such a tall leader.

People say Modi has no respect for senior leaders. The fact is otherwise. He is a self made man. He understood that the seniors have reached a stage of saturation, with all their hardwork and dedication, but could not pass the threshold. He needed to take control of the reins. It is just a case of fresh water. I am not among those whose feel the aged must step aside. It is just that you need horses for courses. One year back, did anybody dared to visualise the effect of Modi in the national scene? Frankly speaking I too could not expect the real intensity when senior leaders like LK Advani was skeptical about declaring Modi as the PM candidate.

People talk of 2002 riots when they do not have anything to say negative about Modi sarkar. We have heard about Godhra and its aftermath. He has tried his best to deescalate the tensions between the warring communities. He did not go for celebrations alongwith bollywood celebrities when his region was burning unlike the ilks of Mulayam. Courts did not name him as culprit. The NGOs who are after him are not such clean people that we could believe them. Atleast here is a promising  leader who is assuring us that there would be no appeasement for any section. He has successfully proved that in Gujarat. Muslims are happy there, what is there for us to object to!

We have seen enough disasters like Arvind Kejriwal who started "no development in Gujarat" sloganeering, which was taken over now by Sonia and Rahul. He has arrived on the national scene only to mar the chances of BJP and Narendra Modi. But then it has only made him to work overtime. All said, Modi is a positive leader with head over heals. This nation is starved of such visionaries and my vote for this tall man by name Narendra Modi. Enough of these casteist, communal, regional, sub-regional considerations, two terms to Modi and I am sure he would transform this great nation to a different level.

Murthy.. Totally agree with you. NaMo looks like the man India waited for so long.
It would be nice to see Congress buried in the ground forever. We buried Communists last eletion; hopefully last rites for Congress will be performed soon.

  2. Great piece of write, after a long time, MND! Hindu hired you for wrong department. Composition point of view I really liked your expression, structuring and enjoyed the flow of text with perfect choice of words. Madam Susheela Prasad would be happy to read this for sure. Look forward to more entries in your blog.On the content part, I have some points. When you are taking about a country with 130 crore people, 3rd largest economy (PPP basis, just a couple of days ago), having the largest population of illiterates and poor, the system should bring out some body close to Sri Rama, otherwise India as peoples is doomed. This is really critical time and perhaps our last chance for standing up to our internal adversaries. But that is where the "system" short comings start choking the country. I personally can say this because I can compare Indian system with that of many countries I've lived long enough to know. I can say with assertion that India as a country is very restrictive in many ways and very far from a democratic tradition of "real" freedom. We have written a code which is self destructive from day one and further we do not even practice whatever is good in it. Politically, we are forced to choose from whatever options are available and we complicate our selection with divisive prejudices. System does not allow a Let us not deceive ourselves by saying no. I had trust on JP (LSP) but the system (as practiced) and our prejudices. With this backdrop, I analyze the situation.Congress has damaged the country bad and there is no democracy within the party and it is more of monarchy. No questions. N-G family is the bane of country in every possible way. Granted. Now BJP. It is no holy party, and you didn't say that. OK.I have seen shakas myself but I have also seen BJP gundas and "settlements" to worry about BJP coming to power. But the real question is about Modi and the possible prime minister chair. The crux of the issue is : whether Modi has the characteristics required for a PM of India.? My answer is No, he is no Atalji. But it is also the fact that among the "PM candidates" (which itself is undemocratic), he is probably the most preferable. That is the most unfortunate thing.
This is exactly where I get frustrated with the system - in 130 crore people, the system failed to identify one person more closer to the "required Characteristics". If system is being exploited, then it is weakness in the system itself. This weakness in the system manifests in many spheres of life - from business, sports, media, justice and law enforcement, our offices to politics, ultimately the continuous frustration has sapped the hope and energy of people. Now "It is like this only" so let us also explot it.
I want a PM who recognizes this weakness, works towards removing it, even though it is less beneficial for him. I don't see Modi doing that. He is only talking about development in terms of economy and infrastructure, without making it sustainable from a system point of view.Development is good. But development is not just infrastructure and economy. I will summarize my thoughts with one example: even if you double the widths of all roads in Hyderabad, traffic will still be chaotic. In addition, enforce discipline, remove real bottle necks scientifically, and the traffic will be smooth. (Now note this : Ahmedabad traffic is not better than Hyderabad traffic). But the politicians will not let it happen because they can exercise more power (1) in anarchy, make money (2) out of it and it does not get them more votes. We on the other hand are happy to use their power (1) and pay up some money (2) and vote (2) stupids, to wriggle out of wrong doing, but will not follow rules. So who is to blame? Is it the "system", it it our collective conscience, or do we agree that we are surely decaying as a a society?

    1. Dear Kasi, Thanks for your review and analysis. I do not see Modi as a panacea to every rotten thing of the SYSTEM. But then somebody has come earnestly to take the cause of the country head on. I could not find any other leader to name other than Modi in the present context. He cannot change the rotten SYSTEM, he would atleast try to improve the conditions of the country. I trust him to do that.Thank you very much for your valuable inputs. Your words of wisdom are understandable considering your global exposure. I am honoured that way. I will keep writing my blogs frequently and keep commenting. It is a value addition for my writings. Also, I could not copy paste your entire comments as it restricts to only 4096 characters. So I take trimmed it, without editing it.

  3. Good post as usual sir, I standby your sentiments on this. Every citizen of this country and their cat thinks a change is required this time. I indeed voted for Modi, keep aside the naysayers.
